Martin Kemp Stars in Doctor Plague (2025): A Chilling Serial Killer Horror

Doctor Plague, the upcoming serial killer horror film from Shogun Films, is set to hit screens in April 2025. The film stars 1980s heartthrob Martin Kemp, widely known for his role in the iconic band Spandau Ballet and his critically acclaimed performance in The Krays. In his first lead role in a decade, Kemp plays Detective John Verney, a London investigator hunting a masked serial killer, dubbed the Plague Doctor, who is wreaking havoc across the city’s underworld.

The film is a gripping blend of folk horror and serial killer thriller, drawing inspiration from the eerie Jack the Ripper murders of 1888. As Verney tracks down the killer, he uncovers a dark conspiracy involving ancient pagan rituals and secret societies. With bodies piling up and pressure mounting from his superiors, Verney finds himself drawn into a terrifying confrontation with an ancient evil. The stakes escalate when his son is kidnapped by the Plague Doctor, leading to a final showdown beneath the tunnels of London.

The film features a talented British cast, including David Yip (The Chinese Detective), Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott (Helloween), Wendy Glenn (You’re Next), and Michael McKell (Allied), alongside Peter Woodward (Babylon 5)—a nod to the folk horror legacy of The Wicker Man.

Directed by Ben Fortune and written by Robert Dunn, Doctor Plague promises to deliver a fresh and chilling experience for horror fans. According to producer Jonathan Sothcott, Kemp’s performance as the weary detective is “off the scale,” with the Plague Doctor’s design set to leave a lasting impact on audiences. Described as a cross between Se7en and The Wicker Man, this film is shaping up to be one of the most unique British horrors of the year.

Doctor Plague will be released by Trinity Creative Partnership in April 2025. Shogun Films, known for its diverse genre offerings, is also preparing several exciting projects, including Helloween, Knightfall, and Werewolf Hunt.
