Plot:

After the events of Kung Fu Panda 3, Po is enjoying life as a successful Dragon Warrior, assisting his father, Mr. Ping, in running a new family restaurant with his biological father, Li Shan. But everything changes when Master Shifu informs Po that it’s time for him to evolve beyond his role as Dragon Warrior. Po must now become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace. This means Po can no longer wield the title of Dragon Warrior and must find a worthy successor.

Initially hesitant and unsure, Po struggles with the idea of giving up the spotlight. He tries various potential candidates but can’t seem to find the right one. Meanwhile, he stumbles upon a cunning corsac fox named Zhen (Awkwafina), who tries to steal ancient weapons from the Jade Palace. Po outsmarts her, but before he can celebrate, he learns that an old enemy, Tai Lung, has returned and destroyed a quarry. However, Zhen reveals that Tai Lung’s return has been orchestrated by an even greater threat — The Chameleon (Viola Davis), a shape-shifting sorceress who can mimic any kung fu move simply by touching a master.

Reluctantly, Po teams up with Zhen to stop The Chameleon. Along their journey, Po’s fathers, Li Shan and Mr. Ping, follow them, worried that Po will face something far worse than he can handle. As they travel through perilous lands, Po and Zhen end up at a dangerous tavern, where they barely escape with their lives. They soon find themselves in Juniper City, where Po is almost arrested, but they manage to evade capture and are led to the Den of Thieves, where they meet Han (Ke Huy Quan), an old friend of Zhen’s.

Here, Po learns that The Chameleon can not only steal kung fu abilities but also raise powerful enemies from the Spirit Realm. This includes Lord Shen, General Kai, and Tai Lung himself. With Zhen by his side, Po heads to The Chameleon’s lair but is betrayed when Zhen reveals herself to be working for The Chameleon all along. Zhen was ordered to steal Po’s Staff of Wisdom, which holds the power to open the Spirit Realm. Po is captured and nearly thrown off a cliff, but just before his fall, he’s saved by his fathers, who help him realize that sometimes change, though difficult, can be the right path forward.

Using the staff, The Chameleon summons the spirits of all the greatest kung fu masters, including Po’s past foes. Po and Zhen are then forced to team up and battle The Chameleon’s army of revived warriors. Po, despite his frustrations, refuses to give up the fight. Zhen, feeling guilty for her betrayal, joins him, helping him to defeat The Chameleon in an intense, action-packed showdown. In the end, Po is able to return the stolen kung fu to its rightful owners, with Tai Lung finally acknowledging Po as the true Dragon Warrior before dragging The Chameleon back to the Spirit Realm with him.

In a final, emotional decision, Po chooses Zhen as his successor, recognizing her growth and potential. Po begins training her alongside the Furious Five, passing the torch to the next Dragon Warrior. Despite Shifu’s reservations about Po’s choice, he realizes that Po’s decision is one made from understanding and compassion, and that sometimes leadership requires letting go.
