Wish You Were Here is a 2025 American romantic drama film directed by Julia Stiles in her feature directorial debut. Starring Isabelle Fuhrman, Mena Massoud, Jennifer Grey, and Kelsey Grammer, the film premiered in theaters on January 17, 2025, and is now captivating audiences worldwide with its heartfelt story and emotional depth.

Plot

Charlotte (Isabelle Fuhrman), a struggling waitress in her late 20s, feels stuck in her mundane life working at a Mexican-themed restaurant and living with her best friend, Helen (Gabby Kono-Abdy). Her overbearing mother (Jennifer Grey) and supportive but distant father (Kelsey Grammer) encourage her to find direction and purpose.

One evening, after a long day, Charlotte and Helen encounter Adam (Mena Massoud), a charming and mysterious painter, who strikes up an unusual conversation with them over Chinese takeout. Despite her initial hesitation, Charlotte is drawn to Adam’s carefree, artistic spirit. The two share a whirlwind night, bonding over their dreams, vulnerabilities, and spontaneous adventures, culminating in a romantic connection.

However, Charlotte’s happiness is short-lived when Adam abruptly pulls away the next morning. Heartbroken and confused, she tries to move on, even starting a relationship with the kind and dependable Seth (Jimmie Fails). But Adam’s absence lingers, and Charlotte is unable to forget him.

Months later, Charlotte is visited by Adam’s friend, Stacy (Jane Stiles), who delivers devastating news: Adam is terminally ill after battling a brain tumor. Shocked and emotional, Charlotte confronts her feelings and decides to spend Adam’s remaining time with him. Together, they embark on a journey of love, healing, and self-discovery, creating unforgettable moments despite the looming sadness of Adam’s prognosis.

The story explores themes of love, loss, and finding meaning in life’s fleeting moments. As Charlotte learns to live fully in the present, she discovers strength and purpose within herself. Adam, in turn, finds solace in their connection, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration that continues to guide Charlotte even after he is gone.
