About the Movie

The dystopian thriller In the Lost Lands is poised to send chills down your spine when it premieres internationally on March 7, 2025. Based on George R.R. Martin’s short story, the film invites viewers into a dark, twisted narrative, opening with the haunting line: “If you’ve got the time in your stomach for it, I’ve got a story for you.”

The story centers around a desperate queen who, in her quest for love, makes a daring move: she sends the powerful and feared sorceress Gray Alys to the perilous wilderness of the Lost Lands in search of a magical power. Gray, played by Milla Jovovich, must navigate this dangerous realm where the laws of nature don’t apply. To survive and succeed, she enlists the help of Boyce, a drifter portrayed by Dave Bautista. Together, they must confront both man and demon to uncover the mystical secrets that lie within.

Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, known for his work on the Resident Evil franchise, In the Lost Lands promises a visually stunning and atmospheric experience. Anderson, collaborating with Constantin Werner, has adapted Martin’s tale into a cinematic masterpiece, blending elements of dystopian fantasy and supernatural intrigue. Fans of Martin’s iconic works like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon can expect a departure from his usual historical settings, diving instead into a world of apocalyptic chaos and unbridled magic.

The film boasts an impressive cast, headlined by Jovovich and Bautista. Supporting roles include Simon Lööf as Jerais, Arly Jover as Ash, Amara Okereke as Melange, Ian Hanmore as The Stranger, Deirdre Mullins as Mara, Sebastian Stankiewicz as Ross, Fraser James as Patriarch Johan, and Nicholas Stone as Kane, among others. This ensemble brings Martin’s richly imagined characters to life, enhancing the film’s depth and emotional impact.

Set many years in the distant future, after a cataclysmic war reshaped the world, In the Lost Lands explores themes of survival, love, and the human (and inhuman) capacity for resilience. The trailer offers glimpses of a desolate yet visually arresting landscape, featuring ruins, battles, and the eerie beauty of the Lost Lands. Shot predominantly against green screens, the film’s aesthetic may evoke the surreal quality of an AI-generated dreamscape, adding to its otherworldly allure.

First published in 1982 as part of the Amazons II anthology, In the Lost Lands is one of Martin’s earliest forays into fantasy. In a recent blog post, Martin described the adaptation as “dark and twisted and atmospheric, and a lot of fun.” Fans have waited a decade for this project, initially announced in 2015 and revived in 2021. Jovovich has been attached to the project throughout its development, marking another collaboration with her husband, Anderson.

The film’s trailer, released earlier this year, has already built significant anticipation, showcasing thrilling action sequences, haunting visuals, and the dynamic chemistry between Jovovich and Bautista. In the Lost Lands is set to deliver a compelling blend of fantasy, action, and emotional storytelling, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.

Prepare to immerse yourself in a world where danger lurks at every turn, and the line between man and monster blurs. In the Lost Lands hits theaters on March 7, 2025—don’t miss this epic journey into the unknown.
